Riding up to Salmon Glacier

There is a gravel road, that is very rough in some places, that leads up to Salmon Glacier. The road runs parallel to the glacier and the river that comes from the glacier. It passes several old mines where gold, silver and copper were once mined.

We are about two weeks early to see the bears that will visit the stream below. The water in this stream is crystal clear. The Chum or "dog" salmon and the pink salmon will soon be moving up this stream and bears come to picnic.

This glacier is the 5th largest in Canada. The road begins in America, but it crosses the border before you reach the glacier.

Cat and Shad enjoy the snow. There were also some folks who rode their snowmobiles up the steep snowy sides of the mountain.

The glacier moves down this valley and turns to the left (picture below) and flows along the valley beside the roadway.

Beautiful blue ice of the glaciers.
