Bears in the road

We left Glennallen and these beautiful mountains Wed. morning headed to a new destination, Stewart, BC/Hyder, AK, USA. Hyder is on the southern tip of Alaska and its neighbor is Stewart, BC. We decided to be in America for the Fourth. That meant two days of intense driving, but tomorrow we will drive only 200 miles to Stewart. We are in Iskut, BC on this fine Thursday evening.

Gas prices in Canada are terrible. We have paid 1.20 - 1.35 per liter. 3.78 liters equals 1 gallon.

We also traveled over some mountains called frost heaves!!! They are severe dips and humps in the highways and they are difficult to avoid, you can only hope they are marked and you can slow down in time. They make for slow driving.

We the turned down the Cassiar highway, 37, to head to Stewart/Hyder and had to deal with several miles of frost heaves and many miles of road construction. I can actually plant tomato seeds on some parts of the truck and camper. But it has already been worth the drive we got a special treat when this mom and her twins were crossing the road and then stopped to graze just twenty to thirty feet away.

This time Cat got the Bears.

If you look closely you will notice some little spots or blurs on the picture. Those are mosquitoes pestering the bears. They also began to pester us while our windows were down taking the pictures. Poor bears, they need some OFF!!!!!!!

On to Stewart/Hyder tomorrow. We will celebrate the Fourth in America, for at least part of the day. Happy Independence Day to everyone.
